Rebaudioside M has been receiving a lot of attention all over the world, given its superior taste profile

when compared to other stevia sweeteners, and its potential as a sugar substitute and a low-calorie sweetener.

Rebaudioside M, or Reb M for short, was discovered by the pioneer of stevia, Morita Kagaku Kogyo Co., Ltd.,based in Japan,

as a result of many years of stevia plant breeding efforts. For this work, Morita has been granted the patent for the Reb M molecule.

Morita’s patents have been granted in Japan, the US, Europe, Korea and Malaysia (refer to the list below).

In addition, Morita has filed numerous related patent applications, including China.

“Rebaudioside M” has been at the center of attention by global food and beverage companies, and in recent years,

the protection of intellectual property rights has become emphasized in the food industry. For these reasons,

Morita has provided a license to “Rebaudioside M” only to selected partners within the stevia industry – excellent companies that

meet high quality standards and supply capabilities.

These companies are: Avansya (a joint venture of Cargill and DSM), Ingredion and Tate & Lyle,

with whom Morita has entered license agreements, thus establishing a supply chain that can meet global demand.

Moving forward, based on Morita’s patents, these global companies will aim to expand the market for “Rebaudioside M”

as a sugar substitute and low-calorie sweetener.
